Self-monitoring
Self-monitoring of intraocular pressure
Early detection is a key component in treating and preventing blindness. It is also crucial in improving patients’ compliance with treatment. Unfortunately, at present many patients often don’t follow their treatment either because they don’t understand it or because they do not take it seriously enough.
Diagnostic precision and self-monitoring follow-up enabled by a telemedical device mean:
• care that is tailored to the individual patient’s needs in real-time
• a decrease in need of surgical treatment
• prolonged visual acuity and prolonged autonomy
The existence of a Homecare screening and monitoring device will enable early diagnosis of most people affected by the disease. The number of undiagnosed patients affected by glaucoma is currently estimated at 50%.
Avoiding unnecessary consultations when your pressure is stable will not only save time and medical expenses but also make for
• a better use of healthcare resources
• an improved quality of care for glaucoma patients
Ophthalmologists will be pleased to have patients who are better cared for. They will be delighted to be able to monitor more closely at-risk patients (with genetic or family history, diabetes, hypertension, or post surgery), and a larger patient base while being able to focus on priority patients whose disease is progressing. The latter will be identified in no time using Homecare tonometry- thanks to a device ready to take IOP measurements at all times, day and night and at any moment of the pressure cycle.
